INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE DANDELION
DID YOU KNOW that the Dandelion hasn't always been known as a weed?
These flowers are my little ones most favourite to pick where ever we go............
This bright happy looking plant that grows everywhere we look, before the 20th century was treasured and looked on as Food & Medicine with magical beliefs, NOT as a Weed......
The Dandelion comes from the French word 'dent de lion' Meaning 'Tooth of the Lion'
Clever Flower
These plants are very clever and have become a survivor of the ever changing world. With the constant mowing of our lawns these flowers have learnt to grow on shorter stems, very clever ;-)
When its Dark or Cold you will see that these flowers among others close their heads as if to keep themselves warm and cozy
Nutrition
The Leaves & petals of this plant are rich in Vitamin A & C as well as Calcium & Iron, they have been used as medicine since Roman Times to treat problems with the Liver & remove toxins from the bloodstream
Even now Herbalists treasure the Dandelion as the perfect plant medicine
Good for your Lawn
Dandelions are in fact very good for your lawn as they have wide spreading roots that pull nutrients like calcium up to the service which is needed for your other plants, Dandelions are good to have because they actually fertilize the grass
Food & Drink Properties
Coffee: The root of the flower is sold as a no Caffeine Coffee substitute.
Dandelion Tea: For hangovers you can drink Dandelion Tea which is known to help the liver flush hangover toxins from the body, its also known to ease headaches, Menstual cramps, backache and more
You can also use Dandelions in your recipes which it is said can also be good for your heart, I've included a link to a few Dandelion Recipes (I have not tried any of these yet) at the bottom of the post
Fluffy White Domes
Last but not least: After the dandelion has fertilized it closes its head and forms seeds which we see as a White Globe that children just love blowing. There is a saying if you catch a seed in the air you can make a wish
